Joe Grose

General Manager

Joe Grose has been involved in the Wagyu industry for over twenty-five years owning and operating a Wagyu breeding herd enterprise (3D Genetics) in New South Wales, Australia. His involvement in the industry has extended to being both a board member and President of the Australian Wagyu Association (AWA).

Joe graduated from University of Queensland in Brisbane with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with his early years focusing predominantly on consulting to the dairy and pig industries; two industries which rely on the collection of objective data on inputs and outputs to make informed operating and financial decisions.

This ignited an interest to operate a livestock venture and a product that provided price differentiation in the marketplace. Hence, Joe’s decision to breed Wagyu cattle which provide an increase in gross margin per hectare due to a higher value product that has similar input costs to traditional beef production. In 1997 Joe purchased his first Fullblood Wagyu heifers that were imported from the USA, which became the start of 3D Genetics.

Prof. Wayne Pitchford

Genetic Analysis

Wayne is Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics and Director of the Davies Livestock Research Centre at the University of Adelaide. He studied Agricultural Science at the university, completed his Ph.D. in Sydney, and has been lecturing at Waite and Roseworthy since 1992. He has been a program leader in the Beef CRC, director of Pork CRC and continues to lead multiple sheep and cattle projects.

The Davies Centre focuses on livestock health and wellbeing utilising medical technologies, Genetic gain utilising genomics and assisted reproductive technologies, improving breeder herd and flock productivity, meat and wool science utilising objective measurement, and training and adoption with trans-disciplinary teams. He has a farm at Keith run in partnership with his son.

Wayne has worked closely with 3D Genetics since 2015 and is directly involved in the genetic analysis for the 3D Genetics breeding program.
